Composed for a concert on the theme of “Prevailing,” this seven-part rondo for woodwind trio explores the predictable and unpredictable nature of wind. The delightful ambiguity of the intervallic relationships of the octatonic scale — comprised of eight notes alternating between half and whole steps apart — creates a mood both familiar and exotic, as this scale offers a rich palette of harmonic expectations and surprises to the Easterlies, the Westerlies, and the Trades.
