This inviting poem by Elinor Wylie creates a true winter wonderland in describing the magical sights, soft sounds, and silence of a snowy day. Originally set to music as a four-part round in my book of "Gathering Rounds, Volume 1," this poem is one I return to for some lightness and brightness every winter. Listen for the careful, slow, even steps, both in the piano and in some special snowy sounds, along with the gently falling velvety snow.
Let us walk in the white snow
In a soundless space;
With footsteps quiet and slow,
At a tranquil pace,
Under veils of white lace.
We shall walk through the still town
In a windless peace;
We shall step upon white down,
Upon silver fleece,
Upon softer than these.
We shall walk in velvet shoes:
Wherever we go
Silence will fall like dews
On white silence below.
We shall walk in the snow.
